Legislation that would give police the power to administer roadside drug tests to motorists has been introduced in Lansing. Republican State Rep. Rick Jones of Grand Ledge is behind the legislation. The three-bill package would create guidelines for using saliva tests when an officer believes a motorist in under the influence of something other than alcohol. Jones says the roadside tests would replace current procedures, which are costly and time-consuming.
