KALAMAZOO -- Tommy Emory was sick and tired of people using the street in front of his home on Kalamazoo’s North side as a gathering spot to socialize at all times of the day and night. So police say he came out and shot two of them to death. He has now been ordered to stand trial for the murders of Sheron Wright and Lawanda Rogers, two old friends who stopped to talk, at Elizabeth and Cobb Streets early on the morning of August 1st. What Detectives never disclosed was that there was a third person who was shot at that night.
Cawon Sanderfield was in one of the vehicles. He testified at Emory’s preliminary hearing that Emory never gave them a chance, shooting them multiple times as they were trying to leave. Sanderfield says he ran, dodging bullets fired at him from behind.
It was good enough for the judge to order Emory tried for both murders.
