MARSHALL -- As we were first to tell you yesterday, two buses with Michigan plates, loaded with undocumented workers who claimed they had just returned to Texas after working the oil clean up in Calhoun County were busted in Southern Texas. The buses were chartered by Phillip Hallmark, the CEO of Hallmark Industrial Services.
Enbridge Energy Spokesperson Terri Larson says they were a subcontractor of a contractor. They found out about it last weekend and immediately demanded to see the documentation for the workers, which she says appeared to be in order.
Congressman Mark Schauer has blasted Enbridge for bringing in undocumented workers from Texas when there are plenty of Michiganders who need jobs.
Larson says there are 500 Michiganders working the cleanup. That is less than a third of the 17-hundred on the job. Schauer is calling for the Attorney General to investigate and he wants the answers before a Congressional hearing scheduled for the 15th.
