NILES (WKZO) -- Niles police are investigating a case of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. Captain James Millin reports that on Saturday evening, dispatch got a call from a woman who said that she'd been held against her will and subjected to an attempted sexual assault at Bond Street Park near the French Paper Dam.
The victim told officers that she'd been at a local bank when a man approached her asking for directions. When she agreed to give him a ride to a nearby business, he claimed that whoever he was looking for wasn't there and asked for a ride to another place, which turned out to be the Bond Street Park. The suspect, identified as 58 year-old Mark Douglas Weiss of Niles, at that point demanded sexual favors from the woman and threatened her with violence.
She escaped from her car and ran to another man who she spotted in the park, and Weiss fled. Responding officers, however, were able to track him down based off his description, and he's now in custody facing several charges, including kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, and criminal sexual conduct. If convicted of kidnapping he could get life in prison.
