BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) -- The Battle Creek Police Department has received numerous phone calls from citizens reporting a man they don't know was asking them for money in exchange for a box of cash.
Ssomeone identifying himself as Jerome has apparently asked several citizens to wire $550 via Western Union to someone named Apolo Welch in Santa Cruz, California.
In return, the caller says he will ship them a box containing $3 million, giving them a toll free number to dial once they have sent the money.
Officials are advising residents just to hang up on him and not to follow his directions.
