Detroit forward Kirk Maltby cleared waivers yesterday and now the Red Wings will wait to hear later today from the 37-year old on whether he’s going to retire on accept an assignment to play for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League.
Maltby has a two year contract that allows him to play in Detroit and for the Griffins. He’s played 14 seasons with the Red Wings, helping them win four Stanley Cups. Detroit starts its season tomorrow night at home against Anaheim.
