Red Wing’s forward Kirk Maltby and defenseman Derek Meech have been placed on waivers while forward Mattias Rittola, who was put on waivers Monday, has been picked up by Tampa Bay, where former Detroit great Steve Yzerman is the general manager. If Maltby and Meech clear waivers they’ll be sent down to Grand Rapids. The Red Wings open the season Friday at home against Anaheim.
