DEARBORN (WKZO) -- Drivers in Michigan will be paying a lot less per gallon going into the Thanksgiving holiday according to AAA Michigan.
The average price of regular unleaded gas is $2.89 per gallon.
AAA Michigan spokesperson Nancy Cain thinks the prices will hold through the holiday.
"After spiking up over 20 cents two weeks ago, they're down almost 11 cents this week," Cain said.
She expects motorists will about 28 cents more per gallon than we did during the Thanksgiving holiday last year.
Meanwhile, Michigan State Police have launched a new Thanksgiving holiday campaign designed to keep motorists safe.
The “Give Thanks, Drive Safely” campaign features billboards with images and tips on safe driving.
"The signs are up to alert the public as a friendly reminder that the holiday is meant to spend time with others, not to get drunk and get behind the wheel," according to Michigan State Police trooper Carissa Horan.
Eleven people were killed in traffic crashes during last year's Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Police will also increase patrols over the long weekend-scouting for speeders and drunk drivers.
