The Spartans Got A Scare Last Night In The Opening Round Of The Maui Invitational

by

Kalin Lucas scored a career-high 28 points, and second-ranked Michigan State survived an 82-74 scare from Division Two Chaminade in the opening round of the Maui Invitational. Korie Lucious added 13 points off the bench for the Spartans while Draymond Green had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Michigan State, now 3-and-0, will face Connecticut in the semifinals tonight. The Spartans trailed 53-to-50 at the 14:34 mark of the second half but then they took control of the game over the next three minutes with a 15-to-0 run, which included a 3-pointer by freshman guard Keith Appling that gave MSU the lead for good at 56-to-53. Appling finished with 8 points and Chaminade never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
