Michigan turned up its defensive pressure in the second half last night and pulled away for a 69-to-50 win over visiting Bowling Green at Crisler Arena. It was a first round game in the Legends Classic, a tournament which wraps up next weekend in Atlantic City.
The Wolverines were well served by youth last night as freshman forward Evan Smotryz had a team-high 14 points along with 7 rebounds while redshirt freshman forward Jordan Morgan added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Darius Morris dished out a career-high 11 assists to go along with 6 points.
Michigan, which improved to 2-and-0, held the Falcons to just 19 points in the second half after the Wolverines led 39-to-31 at the intermission. Michigan returns to action Sunday afternoon when it hosts Gardner-Webb in round two of the Legends Classic.
Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo is for sure now one of the highest paid coaches in college basketball. The school announced Thursday that Izzo is getting a raise of a half-a-million dollars, increasing his annual salary to 3-and-a-half million dollars. The amended contract also gives him use of a private jet for up to 25 hours each year.
