DELTON (WKZO) -- The prosecutor in Barry County has ruled that the police shooting of a 40-year-old suicidal man who was threatening other residents at the Guernsey Lake Mobile Home Park last month was justifiable, given the circumstances.
Anthony Thompson had been terrifying neighbors, aiming a shotgun at them and telling them he was going to kill them. When State Troopers and Barry County deputies arrived to confront him, he refused to put the shotgun down.
When he leveled the gun at police, he was shot twice and killed.
The name of the trooper who fired the fatal shots has not been released. He had been on leave pending the outcome of the shooting review, and is not entirely cleared.
A review of the shooting by the state police internal affairs division must also be completed.
