STURGIS (WKZO) -- Detectives believe alcohol was a factor when a man was run over and killed by a semi early Monday on the south side of Sturgis.
Pronounced dead at the scene just after 2:30am was 45-year old James Chess.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department said it appeared Chess was walking in the southbound lane of South Centreville Road south of Fawn River Road when he was struck by the truck.
The truck driver is identified as 61-year old Harold Bolden of Sturgis.
Chess lived nearby the scene of the accident, which remains under investigation.
