Jimmy Howard needed to make just 16 stops as Detroit took a 2-1 win last night over the Flames at Calgary. Mike Modano and Justin Abdelkader each had a goal in the second period for the Red Wings, who have won five of their last six games to improve to 7-2-and-1. Modano's goal was his first one since the season opener, snapping an eight-game drought.

Detroit plays tomorrow night at Edmonton.
