BATTLE CREEK (WKZO) - A Battle Creek man is dead from a gunshot wound and two police officers are on paid administrative leave after an ugly confrontation in a residence for folks with psychological issues, at 248 Garfield Avenue.

Around 5:30 yesterday afternoon, the officers found a 47 year old man tossing things out of a third story window. When they entered the apartment and tried to calm him down, he resisted. When the resident reportedly grabbed a cleaver and lunged at one of the officers, his partner pulled his sidearm and shot the man in the head. No names have been released. Police say it appears to be justified but investigations and internal reviews are planned.
