(Lansing, MI) -- The state set a record with an oil and gas lease auction of state-owned land this week, bringing in 178-million dollars. The previous high was 23-point-six million, set in 1981. State officials said the total nearly eclipsed all previous since 1929 combined, which have collected 190-million. Department of Natural Resources and Environment Director Rebecca Humphries said the auction shows the, quote, "future of oil and gas exploration in Michigan looks very bright."
