The Red Wings are in a deep hole in their second round playoff series against the Sharks after losing 4-to-3 in overtime last night at Joe Louis Arena and now trail San Jose 3-games-to-nothing. Detroit’s season will end if they don’t beat the Sharks in Game Four tomorrow night in Motown.
Patrick Marleau scored at 7:07 of overtime to give the Sharks the come-from-behind win. Tomas Holmstrom and Daniel Cleary lit the lamp in the first period for Detroit and Henrik Zetterberg scored in the second for the Red Wings, who blew leads of 2-0 and 3-1. Jimmy Howard stopped 29 shots for the Red Wings.
Detroit Coach Mike Babcock said the Red Wings were better than the Sharks last night, but they weren’t better long enough. Detroit hasn’t been swept out of the playoffs since Anaheim did it in the first round in 2003.
