The Red Wings last night wasted a 4-to-0 lead against the Oilers but were still able to beat Edmonton 5-to-4 at Joe Louis Arena as Brad Stuart redirected a Pavel Datsyuk wrist shot for the game-winning tally with 1:07 to play.
It was Detroit’s first win in four games this season against the Oilers, who have the worst record in the league. Johan Franzen had a goal and an assist, while Andrea Lilja, Niklas Kronwall, and Drew Miller also scored for Detroit, which won its season-high sixth straight game.
Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots for the Red Wings while Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom had two assists apiece. Detroit, which is an NHL-best 12-2-and-1 since the Olympic break, stands one point behind Nashville for fifth place in the West and one point ahead of seventh-place Los Angeles. The Kings beat the Predators 2-to-0 last night. The Red Wings host Columbus tomorrow night.
Tonight in the ECHL at Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo plays Cincinnati.
