(Detroit, MI) -- A Detroit group is supporting proposed legislation which would limit police chases in Michigan. The Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality is backing the bill, which was first introduced last year by State Representative Bert Johnson. According to the measure, a police pursuit could only begin when imminent peril exists. Johnson plans to request a hearing next month before the state House Judiciary Committee to outline how similar laws have worked in other states. If passed, the measure would be named in honor of Brent Berry, Eugene Pierce Junior and Eric Flowers who were killed when the driver of a vehicle involved in a police pursuit hit their car on the city's westside in 2006.
