Johan Franzen had two goals and two assists, all coming except one goal in a four-goal second period, as Detroit cruised to a 6-2 win last night over the Minnesota Wild at Joe Louis Arena.
Pavel Datsyuk, Jonathan Ericsson and Tomas Holmstrom each added a goal and a helper for the Red Wings, who are 7-0-and-1 in their last eight games and are tied with Colorado for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Tonight, it’s Detroit at Nashville.
In college hockey, Michigan takes on Bemidji State tonight in Ft. Wayne in the NCAA Tournament Midwest regional semi-finals. Two wins this weekend would send the Wolverines to the Frozen Four coming up next month at Ford Field.
And in the ECHL, the Kalamazoo Wings lost 4-to-3 in overtime at Wheeling, West Virginia. Tonight, it’s Kalamazoo at Cincinnati.
