KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Mayor Bobby Hopewell is asking residents to do a couple of things for him. At the conclusion of last night’s City Commission meeting he made this appeal.
First, he wants people to fill out their census forms. They arrive in the mail this week. He says a lot of federal programs that send money to the city, use that headcount to set their allocations. The other thing he wants residents to do is to nominate the city for the Google Fiber pilot.
Cities all over the U.S. are competing to have the big web search engine turn their community into a test bed for lightning fast internet service. You can find instructions to do that on the front page of the city’s website. He says the city plans to roll out other things the community can do toward that effort in the coming days.
