NILES (WKZO) -- A 14-year-old Niles Township teen is in custody after police say he shot his grandfather in the head, killing him. Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting that occurred at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning in the 3100 block of Niles-Buchanan Road.
Police say a 14-year-old suspect shot his 64-year-old grandfather while the grandfather was sleeping. Sgt. Mike Dawson says police immediately took the teen into custody.
Dawson says the Berrien County Prosecutor's Office will release more information about the incident after the teen appears in court today. The suspect's grandmother was there when the shooting occurred.
