With the 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game in the rear-view mirror, the second half of the 2010 season gets underway today with seven games on the schedule, although Detroit doesn’t resume play until tomorrow night at Cleveland in a four game series that includes a day night doubleheader on Saturday.
The tight American League Central Division race finds the Tigers a half game removed from the top spot held by the White Sox, who take an 8-game winning streak into Minnesota and tonight’s opener of a 4-game series with the third place Twins.
Minnesota is 3-and-a-half games off the pace in the Central. The big question for Tiger fans is will General Manager Dave Dombrowski pull the strings to acquire some help before the end of the month trading deadline for Detroit’s starting rotation which can’t be sure that Rick Porcello will again show the fine form of his rookie season. Porcello, who has been trying to shape up at Triple-A Toledo, will get a start this weekend at Cleveland.
