KALAMAZOO -- Federal stimulus dollars are on their way to Kalamazoo to create jobs and improve some of the city’s tired and stressed neighborhoods. Fifteen million dollars will help with problem housing, such as those that have been abandoned or foreclosed in the Edison, East side, North Side, Stuart, Fairmont, and Vine neighborhoods.
Kalamazoo County Treasurer Mary Balkema says some will get fixed up while others will be torn down. The county will sell them once work is completed. Balkema says one requirement is that only Michigan workers be hired for the work.
