KALAMAZOO -- After two jail millages were crushed by voters, the Kalamazoo County Board has saved up enough money to proceed with a downsized expansion of the chronically overcrowded County Jail. Last night they appointed an architectural firm to begin drawing up plans, and decided to seek a manager to oversee its construction.
County Attorney Thom Canny says they have a wish list that it cost around 11-million dollars and that it include 200 to 250 beds, room for a medical facility, 30 segregation beds to isolate difficult prisoners, and a new intake facility.
