VAN BUREN COUNTY(WKZO) -- A Paw Paw Police Officer won't be charged for his role in a pile-up that killed 2- men from the area. Van Buren County Prosecutor Juris Kaps announced Thursday there won't be any charges, because the drivers involved in the initial crash both died.

Police say 37-year-old Keith Rapp of Kalamazoo crossed the center line on Red Arrow Highway in Paw Paw and hit 23-year-old Jeff Haas of Decatur head on. Then, Paw Paw Police Officer Timothy McMeekan crashed his cruiser into Haas' Ford while responding to the accident.

But, Kaps says the second crash with the police cruiser wasn't reckless enough for charges. The Kent County medical examiner later reported Haas died before his car was hit by the Paw Paw cruiser. Rapp died the next day at an area hospital. In a press release, Kaps says McMeekan was not criminally culpable in the case
