MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Confidence in Wisconsin's credit unions and banks is strong at a time when more consumers appear to be wary of larger financial institutions. Credit unions saw their largest membership growth in a decade in 2009, according to The Wisconsin Credit Union League. They say although last year's 2.4 percent membership increase may sound small, it was actually nearly double their average rate of growth.
Credit Union League Spokesman Chad Helminak says he that thinks that many people are taking another look at their local options. He says people are looking at the financial industry and asking whether large financial institutions protect them in services like loans or credit cards.
