(Wayne, MI) -- Cleanup is continuing from Wednesday's explosion of William C. Franks Furniture in the Detroit suburb of Wayne. The store's owner, Paul Franks, was initially listed in critical condition with severe burns at the University of Michigan Hospital after being pulled from the rubble. Firefighters found James Zell and a female employee dead beneath the rubble after several hours of searching. The furniture store has been a family-owned business in Wayne for more than four decades. Wayne Mayor Abdul Haidous declared a state of emergency Wednesday evening.
A natural gas leak is believed to be the cause of the explosion. According to Consumers Energy spokeswoman Debra Dodd, two gas leaks were found within a couple blocks of one another. Dodd says that it's unclear exactly what caused the explosion and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
