Michigan State suffered a beat down last night at the hands of Syracuse as the eight-ranked Orangemen took it to the number-seven Spartans 72-to-58 in the Jimmy-V Classic at Madison Square Garden. MSU Coach Tom Izzo said he was as disappointed in his team’s performance as he’s ever been since coaching at Michigan State.
The Spartans, who slipped to 6-and-3, were manhandled inside where Syracuse had a 42-to-24 advantage in points in the paint. Michigan State also committed 17 turnovers and was just 7-of-24 from three point range, helping the Orangemen improve to 9-and-0. Durrell Summers finished with 19 points for the Spartans. Korie Lucious added 10 points off the bench and Draymond Green grabbed 11 boards for MSU, which returns to action Saturday afternoon at the Palace of Auburn Hills against Oakland University.
Tonight’s schedule includes Western Michigan at home against Detroit Mercy.
