(Washington, DC) -- Governor-elect Rick Snyder is asking Congress for help in repaying three-point-eight billion dollars. The state borrowed the money from the federal government to pay unemployment benefits, and Snyder told the "Detroit News" the state cannot afford to pay it back. He said in order to pay back the loan, Michigan will have to quote, "start increasing our unemployment tax," adding the state has been unduly burdened because it was hit the hardest by the recession. Snyder fears having to raise the unemployment tax would drive business away.
