Max Scherzer struck out eight over eight innings of one-run ball to improve to 10-and-9. In 17 starts since Scherzer was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on May 30th, he’s 9-and-5 with a 2.20 E-R-A. Jose Bautista belted his 41st homer of the season to account for Toronto's only run.
Justin Verlander goes to the mound for the Tigers tonight against the Blue Jays. The White Sox won last night 8-to-0 over Baltimore, keeping Chicago 3-and-a-half games behind the Central Division leading Twins, who beat Texas 6-to-4. The Tigers trail the Twins by nine games.
