DETROIT -- The number of hybrid vehicles sold this year could be a sign their popularity is waning.  "USA Today" reports sales are down about 24-percent across the board for hybrid cars except for the Toyota Prius.  The newspaper cites the economy and gas prices hovering around three-bucks a gallon as factors for the decline.  The report makes uncertain how well high-mileage electric cars will do, with the first one slated to hit the market by the end of the year.
