ZEELAND -- Police in Zeeland are investigating the death of a young girl and right now they aren’t sure what they have.
On Thursday afternoon, 10-year-old Sandra Flores became ill at her Zeeland apartment unit and went into convulsions. She died at Holland Hospital shortly after she was admitted and medical staff alerted Holland police about some bruising the child had sustained. A preliminary autopsy did not reveal a cause of death but concluded that the bruising could not have killed her. Chief Bill Olney says it wasn’t the first time the girl had been the victim in an alleged case of child abuse. They have just never been able to prove it. They hope now that toxicology tests will turn up some data that will help them in their investigation.
Two other children who live in the home remain there.
