KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- A Public Safety Officer was roughed up when he tried to make an arrest of a suspect wanted on several warrants during a routine traffic stop at Hotop and Gilbert last evening. The passenger in the car refused to cooperate, so when Officer Anthony Morgan reached in to grab him, the suspect resisted and started calling for help from a nearby crowd.
The crowd began grabbing at the officer, and some of them began hitting his squad car with bricks, smashing out the windows and denting the body. The suspect made run for it and the officer followed, with the crowd behind him. The crowd grabbed PSO Morgan and the suspect ran into a house, which was immediately surrounded by responding officers.
The 21 year old subsequently surrendered and now faces a list of assault and felony counts A juvenile female was also arrested for assaulting PSO Morgan, and more arrests are expected. Officer Morgan was treated for minor injuries at Bronson E.R.
