SCHOOLCRAFT -- A white male armed with a handgun and wearing a ski-mask held up the Gourdneck Lake Market in Schoolcraft Township late Saturday night.
The robber came in to the party store and demanded money and fled the area. He was wearing a gray square checkered hoody pulled up over his head, and jeans. He was also wearing gloves.
COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP -- A child was struck by a car on River St. near Higgins in Comstock Township just before 6PM last evening. The name, age or condition of the young victim has not been released. Kalamazoo County Deputies say the driver was headed down River at the posted speed when the child, just didn’t look where they were going and stepped out in front of the van.
The child was rushed to Bronson E.R. for Treatment. The Driver was cited for a non-moving traffic violation, but was not cited for striking the child.
KALAMAZOO -- A pair of not-too-bright dope dealers who felt like cranking up the sound system on their stereo, are in custody this morning, and facing multiple charges after a Kalamazoo Public Safety officer pulled them over for excessive noise. One thing led to another. The officer smelled marijuana.
A search of the car turned up the dope, a large sum of money and a big loaded handgun under the front seat. The two occupants, a 19 and a 20 year old from Portage were arrested on the spot and confessed they had been selling marijuana in Kalamazoo and needed the hand gun “for Protection”. They may be charged today with drug and gun felonies.
gRAND JUNCTION -- Like mother like daughter. Van Buren County Deputies were arresting two drunken teenagers after they were called to a domestic disturbance on Baseline Road near Grand Junction Saturday, when the mother of one of the girls raced up in her car and demanded her daughter be released.
Deputies quickly got the impression that the mom, 39 year old Sandra Aaron, was also drunk. They began asking her questions when she jumped into her car and floored it, striking a deputy and running over his foot as she fled.
She was arrested later, and may face multiple counts today. Maybe she got to share a cell with her daughter this weekend.
The Deputy was treated and released.
VAN BUREN COUNTY -- There was another rash of vandalism this weekend, this time in Van Buren County, including a sick twist this time.
Among the senseless, violent acts this time, someone beat a 10-pound Yorkshire Terrier to death with a club in the 29-thousand block of 42nd Ave. in Almena Township. They think the same person may have thrown a rock thru a store window and set a Chevy on fire. There were also reports of random acts of vandalism and a stolen car in the Paw Paw area ths weekend.
The only description comes from the dog owner of a person wearing a hoody.
Police are asking for any help they can get to identify the vandal.
