WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Thursday that a decision to deploy additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan should not be hurried.
"This decision process should not be rushed... We need to take our time and get this right," Gates said.
Gates said he recently authorized sending another 2,500 to 3,000 support troops to assist combat forces in Afghanistan, and that he was prepared to send more if needed. Those increases fall within the current limits on the size of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Gates said.
