OSHTEMO -- Crime is up in Oshtemo, which is one of the fastest growing areas in the county, thanks to the Kalamazoo Promise, new student apartments near WMU, and commercial expansion along West Main.
They have no police force of their own, contracting instead with the County to supply extra deputies. The Township board has set a February 9th hearing on a half-mil increase in taxes for the portion of the township, that isn’t already paying a higher millage, to pay for more deputy patrols.
