WASHINGTON -- A new report from the government shows General Motors and Chrysler were given production levels to meet in order to receive federal help. The Government Accountability Office report said it's not likely the Treasury Department will recover all of the money it sent to the two automakers to keep them in business.
GM agreed to keep its American manufacturing within 90-percent of the level laid out in its business plans. Chrysler was told to either make 40-percent of its sales in the U.S. from American-built automobiles or keep its production in this country above 90-percent of what it was in 2008.
