It seems recent weather planting delays may be working in favor of area corn growers after all. What hasnt emerged hasnt been nipped by early morning freezing temperatures last week. If youve got fields that are further along youll still need to keep an eye out for symptoms like brown leaf tissue indicating theyve been affected. Theres good news from Mark Longstroth as far as fruit is concerned. He says some growers turned on the water to help insulate plants from the chill but we can also be thankful clouds arrived in the middle of the night Friday putting a blanket on things and keeping temperatures from dropping into the middle 20s in most spots. However further east this wasnt the case and fruit in places like Jackson have been more affected by last weeks freeze. This week appears to be another story entirely. Even warmer conditions are poised to arrive by the Memorial Day weekend along with sunny skies.
