The conservative website Hot Air this week featured two stories where the elderly used firearms to defend themselves, in their homes. And maybe two stories isn't a trend, but Jazz Shaw is certainly correct when he points out how vulnerable the elderly living in rural areas are. If you think response police response time in a medium-sized city is too slow to save you, imagine what it is for folks living in the sticks.
And the problem is compounded by the belief system that rural residents don't have to worry about home invasion robberies; that is a completely false notion. If someone is in their 70's or 80's and have never held a gun, the concept of protecting his or herself with a firearm might be to foreign to them to consider it now. But if it isn't, they should seriously consider making that move.
