BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — The A-10’s, the jet fighters they call the “Warthog” are back in Battle Creek, if only for the week, appearing in the Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival.
Until 2009 there was a squadron of them at Kellogg Field and while they might be seen coming and going from the Airfield, flying over a parade or a Memorial Service,
They were never demonstrated locally like they were this weekend, the plane put thru its paces in front of the crowd.
Spokesperson Betty Chevalier says the Air Force has been unable to find any plane that is better at providing air-support for troops on the ground.
She says they have been upgrading the planes structurally, adding new avionics and even put them back out on the road to promote recruitment.
She says her demonstration team is based in Arizona, this is their first year back on tour in a while.
The A-10 demonstration will also be a part of the airshows on the 3rd and 4th at the Field of Flight event.
