The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has started work to repave about one-fifth of a mile of M-43 and rebuild a pump station along the Kalamazoo River in downtown Kalamazoo.
While some work already has started, a detour will be in place mid-June to mid-July while M-43 is closed from the I-94 Business Loop (Kings Highway) to East Michigan Avenue for storm sewer and road construction. All work on the $1.7 million project is expected to be completed in mid-August.
MDOT also will be partnering with the city on streetscape enhancements in the Northside Neighborhood through a $440,000 Transportation Enhancement grant. MDOT will be upgrading six intersections along North Park Street and North Westnedge Avenue. Improvements will include bricked crosswalks, increased green space, pedestrian sheltering, pedestrian level lighting and enhanced scenery.
