KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A new roadway expansion project on I-94 will cause multiple lane closures in the Kalamazoo area over the next month.
Road crews are going to be busy installing expanded shoulders on the interstate to give drivers more room if they need to pull over their vehicle.
The construction work will expand pavement along the westbound lanes of I-94 near mile marker 82 east of the business loop exit and the eastbound lanes near mile marker 83 close to the rest stop area in Galesburg.
Michigan Department of Transportation officials say the shoulder expansion will act as an investigation lane for stalled vehicles and first responders to come to a stop without disrupting traffic.
MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa told WWMT that while the department is unsure how long construction may last, they expect work to wrap up around May 15th.
The latest information on closures and an updated construction map can be found at MDOT’s website.
