Eleven years after the horrific murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay teenager killed in Wyoming in 1998, the Senate Thursday finally passed groundbreaking legislation to make it a federal crime to assault someone because of their sexual orientation. The Matthew Shepard law passed 68-29 and President Obama has pledged to sign it.
