Ever wonder exactly what your skyrocketing health care premiums pay for? Surprise — it isn’t necessarily health care. Sen. John D. Rockefeller (D., WV) researched 15 insurance companies and found only about 82 cents of every dollar went to health care. And that’s only for businesses; for individuals, it’s closer to 77 cents. (Coventry Health Care only spent 66 cents on the dollar for health care.) The rest of the cash goes to fancy corporate jets, multi-million-dollar salaries and to pay for underwriters to help them figure out how to deny more people coverage.
