Right Track for Farm Bill

An American Farm Bureau official says AFB feels more confident Congress is back on the right road to getting a five-year farm bill done - after dropping a one-year extension from a drought aid package this week. But there are still many caution flags.

There are no guarantees a five-year bill will succeed - or even win House approval by the September 30th deadline - or pass in a post-election lame duck session. The votes weren’t there earlier amid huge party differences over food stamp cuts - which is why the GOP tried but failed to get a one-year extension up.
