It is so great to see how much the sport of high school ski racing has grown. It used to be quite the "boutique" activity.
This year, the Southwestern Michigan High School Racing League was 90 strong and they held their annual awards banquet in Wayland.
After skiing all season at Timber Ridge and Bittersweet, the coaches tabulated the scores.
Congratulations to the top women's team: The Portage Alpine Team (comprised of skiers from Portage Northern and Portage Central)
And the top men's team: Caledonia
And my family and I are pleased to present this year's Andy Miller Award for spirit and sportsmanship to Emily Southerton, a senior in Caledonia who reached State Finals and is off to Aquinas College next year.
