A Sorry State of Affairs

I want to thank INFORUM for bringing Betsy Myers to town.  She gave a great presentation at The Radisson yesterday on leadership.

Myers served as President Clinton's senior adviser on women's issues and was the first Director of The White House Office for Women' Initiatives and Outreach.

During the Q & A, she was asked about the divisiveness of politics and the fact that you can't even have a civil conversation about issues anymore.

She shook her head and said that's why she's now in the private sector, pointing out that "back in the day" Tip O'Neill and President Reagan got together socially all the time even though they were on opposite sides of the political spectrum.  They'd find common ground and work it out.

Now we have a Speaker of the House who has vowed to do everything in his power to assure that the President fails.

Myers likens it to a board of directors telling the new CEO that THEY would do everything they could to make him fail.  How do you think that would fly?

Yet, that's where we are.  It's super depressing.
