The Wes Leonard story captured the hearts of the entire country. Bronco basketball coach Steve Hawkins talked this morning about how hard it is to lose someone so young.
My husband and I know all too well what that is like having lost our 17 year old son in a car accident in 1997. That is why we started The Andy Miller Award --a sportsmanship award--that is given each year to a local high school ski racer. Last night at Mattawan High School, the league coaches awarded it to senior Maley Wright.
Maley was dominating the league for 3 years before her school dropped skiing so she dropped the school and transferred to Mattawan for her senior year so she could keep on competing.
And what a competitor! She placed 6th in slalom and 15th in giant slalom at State Finals in Marquette last week. But the coaches say it was her can-do attitude and willingness to help her team that earned her the award.
Congratulations, Maley!
