Chaotic Birthday Party

Posted by Lauri Quinn Loewenberg on

Dear Lauri,

I had a dream that we had a birthday party for my son. I wasn't ready, the house wasn't ready. I was going to be serving beans and rice but we had nothing. The bathrooms had no light because the bulbs burned out. I was trying to find toys to give as prizes. At the end, the cake was too small, the spoons were dirty and the guests started leaving before I could say goodbye.   – Heidi 41, Fort Wayne, IN

Lauri:
A chaotic dream is often connected to having too much on your plate and not enough time. However, chaos and clutter can also be connected to confusion or indecision in waking life. Beans and rice can be about being strapped financially. Are you trying to give your kids the basics of what they need instead of splurging?

The burned out bulb may be a warning that you are about to burn out and the dirty spoons may point to negativity that is dirtying up an otherwise clean psyche. Have you or has someone around you been a bit negative lately?

The cake that is too small is your recognition that you don't have enough of what you would like to offer your family, friends, yourself, etc. But again, a cake is served in celebration. I think your dream may be telling you that despite all the chaos, your life is filled with lots and lots of little things that are worth celebrating.

Heidi replies: I am working two jobs. I struggle to schedule time around everything else to get both jobs done: taking the kids to school, picking them up, after school activities, etc. I am uncertain about my job. I wish I had time to focus on finding a job I really want... but I’m not ready for full time work because of my youngest son. Which leads to money. Yes, we are strapped for cash always. But, as you said, I am thankful for all I DO have and take pleasure in the little things. I loved this insight! Thanks!
