Yesterday in South Carolina Michelle Bachmann said "Under President Bachmann you will see gasoline come down below $2 a gallon again," and went on to say "That will happen." So that leaves the question HOW?
So one way to do that would be to significantly lower the federal gasoline tax that sits at 18.4 cents per gallon, and raises approximately $25 billion dollars for the Federal Government. Somehow I believe we would end up paying that money in some other use tax.
The other way to lower the price back to $2.00 a gallon is to provide more government subsidies to oil companies. The current subsidies for five oil companies sit at twelve billion a year.
Maybe promising that "That will happen" sounds good on the campaign trail, and I would LOVE to see it. Realistically I just can't see it ever happening again, and it may be a comment that could come back to bite Bachmann in the future.
